In Everything, By Prayer

·

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4–7 (NKJV)

Right in the middle of one of the most beautiful passages in all of Scripture, the Holy Spirit communicates one of the most important truths of the Christian life. It’s just four words, but life-changing in every imaginable way: “In everything, by prayer.”

In all things, for all things, and in every circumstance, by prayer.

A.W. Tozer once called this phrase “a key to the treasure house of God.”

He wrote that everything God has is ours—all the joy and comfort and peace and strength that we could possibly need. But we often miss all that God wants to give us because we have not practiced “in everything by prayer.”

I do not know your situation or the personal circumstances surrounding your life today.

But I do know this: Regardless of your current lot in life, prayer is the answer.

Let’s all meditate and focus on the instruction again: In everything, by prayer.

If you are in sorrow… in everything, by prayer.

If you are going through a trial… in everything, by prayer.

When you are being tempted… in everything, by prayer.

When you are confused… in everything, by prayer.

In your season of hopelessness… in everything, by prayer.

In the decision you are facing… in everything, by prayer.

In our joy, by prayer. In our success, by prayer.

And in our victory, by prayer.

In everything, by prayer.

Today and always.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come to you today in prayer. Today, in my ________, I pray. And tomorrow, no matter what may come, I will pray. Help me, O God, live my life in everything I do, by prayer. Amen.
