Ask, Seek, Knock, Sell, Remain, Believe…

·

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Matthew 7:7-8

We love to say, “There is nothing you can do to make God love you more and there is nothing you can do to make God love you less.”

And this is certainly true. An infinite love from an infinite God can never become more or less than it already is.

But it is not true to say, “There is nothing you can do to make God bless you more and there is nothing you can do to make God bless you less.”

There are countless examples in God’s Word where He offered conditional promises to those who live a certain way:

Here are just a few of the conditional promises included in Scripture:

“You do not have because you do not ask.”

“If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.”

Sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.”

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Even “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.”

It is true to say how we live does not affect God’s love for us. But it is NOT true to say how we live does not affect God’s blessing on our life.

It does matter.

So be careful how you live.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for your unconditional promise of love and common grace. Reveal to me how I can experience more of you in my life and more of your blessing in my life. And then grant me the strength through your Holy Spirit to live them out for your glory and Kingdom. Amen.
