Psalm 46:7-11
When I was in college, I read my first book by A.W. Tozer. At the very beginning, he wrote something that immediately changed my life. Just one sentence:
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
He continued to write an entire book developing that thought. But from the very first page, I was struck by the truth and weight of that statement. There is nothing more important about us than what we think when we think about God.
And because of that, there is no greater journey we can embark upon than to know God correctly and personally.
This journey is, of course, a journey without end. We are finite creatures and He is an infinite Being. Our minds will never fully comprehend all that God is. Even after spending eternity with Him in heaven, there will be more to uncover and discover.
But there are steps we can take today to help us think rightly about Him.
Entire books could be written on the topic.
But Psalm 46:10 gives us one practical step we can and should be taking:
Be still.
When we slow down long enough to center our attention and hearts on God, we begin to know Him more — both in knowledge and in relationship. And there is nothing more important we can do today than that.

Heavenly Father, quiet my heart and mind today. Help me be still long enough to know You better as You reveal Yourself to me through Your Spirit. You are my desire and pursuit. Amen.
