Created For Him

·

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Colossians 1:15-20

Colossians Chapter 1 is a beautiful chapter. I encourage you to find some time to read the entire thing when you get a chance.

But there is an important word in verse 16 we would all benefit from noticing and saying more often.

It is common for us to speak of the world and the universe being created by God. And this is no doubt an important truth we should never forget. Our God created the world and all that is within it.

But the Holy Spirit tells us something more in Colossians 1:16.

He says: All things have been created through him and for him.

Look at that little three-letter word.

All things were created for Jesus.

It is one thing to say that everything was created by Jesus. It is something even greater to say everything was created for Him.

This truth changes the way we see ourselves and others.

The stars and the moon were created to serve and give glory to Jesus. They were created through him and for him.

So were we.

Our time was not just given to us by God—it was given to us for God. Our resources were not just provided by God—they were entrusted to us for God. Our talents and abilities were not just placed in us by God—they were designed to be used for God.

And all the people we interact with in the world around us? Not just created by God but for God.

Nothing in our lives reaches its full potential until it is lived out for the purpose for which it was created.

A life lived for ourselves will always feel like something is missing.

But a life lived for Jesus will always reach its full purpose.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus. Thank You for creating me and loving me. Thank You for calling me to a wonderful purpose. Help me to always live in the truth that I was created by You and for You. Amen.
