Forget Not His Benefits

·

Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Psalm 103:1-5

David’s words in Psalm 103 are some of the most beautiful in all of Scripture.

They read like a song of praise. But at the same time, they act as a reminder to our own forgetful hearts.

Look at the nearly impossible-to-comprehend exhortation in verse 2. David tells us:

“Forget not all his benefits.”

That phrase is worth sitting with. Because if we’re honest, it’s easy to forget.

It’s easy to get so caught up in the worries of the day and the trappings of this world that we forget what God has already done—and what He continues to do.

But look at how David continues. Because he doesn’t just tell us to not forget, he includes an impressive list of the benefits we receive when we follow God:

He forgives all our sins.
He heals our diseases.
He redeems our life from the pit.
He crowns us with love and compassion.
He satisfies our desires with good things.
He renews our strength like the eagle’s.

What an incredible list.

This is who God is and what He offers. This is what it means to belong to Him—not just someday, but right now. Look back at that list. Consider what it means. And today, take a moment to consider ALL his benefits.

Through Christ:

Every sin wiped clean.
Our wounds healed in His time—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual.
Our lives rescued from death, despair, and the bondage of sin.
An opportunity to live filled with love and compassion.
Our desires satisfied in ways the world never could.
Strength renewed so we can live each day filled with purpose and passion.

How does reminding yourself of these benefits change you today?

And how would your life look if you carried them with you into every day: all your decisions, your challenges, your relationships?

They are not just words on a page—they are promises to live by.

So praise Him today. Remember what is true. And take a quiet moment right now to “forget not all his benefits.”

Prayer
