God’s Handiwork

·

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:6-10

If you’ve spent time in church, you’ve likely heard Ephesians 2:8-9: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” This beautiful passage reminds us that our salvation is a gift from God, not something we earn or deserve.

But there’s an often-overlooked, short phrase at the very beginning of verse 10 that holds an incredible, life-changing truth, one that can lift our spirits when we are discouraged, frustrated, or without hope.

“For we are God’s handiwork.”

Before continuing on, take a quiet moment to really let those words sink in and think about what they mean: You are God’s handiwork.

You are a unique, intentional creation of God. You were not mass-produced on a cosmic assembly line. God, like a fine craftsman, lovingly knit you together with purpose and care. Every detail of your life—your talents, your personality, your passions, your experiences, your relationships, even the time and place of your birth—was carefully shaped by His hand.

There’s no one like you. And that is by God’s design.

Maybe today you’re feeling discouraged or lost, wondering if your life has meaning. Maybe you feel like you don’t measure up or that you’re just another face in a crowd, unseen and unknown. But Ephesians 2:10 tells us something different. You are God’s handiwork, created with intention and purpose.

God didn’t just save you because you are His creation; He saved you for a reason. He created you intentionally to do good works that He has prepared for you. Your life has meaning and purpose because of who made you—and how he made you!

You were created for good works that only you can accomplish. The passions and abilities God placed in you were no accident. And that means your life has profound significance—both now and for eternity.

Consider the weight of that truth: You are God’s handiwork.

That truth alone can change the way you view today and your attitude toward it. It can also change the rest of your life when we let it sink into our heart and soul.

So, whatever you face today, remember this: You are not random. You are not insignificant. You are God’s masterpiece, created with a purpose.

Go forward in joy, confidence, and boldness, knowing that the Creator of the universe has uniquely crafted you to fulfill His good purposes.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for Jesus and the opportunity to follow you. Grant me boldness, strength, courage, and joy in light of the reality that I am indeed, your unique handiwork. By the power of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
