How to Experience A Peace That Transcends

·

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4-7

Do you want more peace? No doubt, for sure. End of story.

In Philippians 4, the Holy Spirit promises us something remarkable. A peace that transcends all understanding. A peace available in every situation. A peace so powerful it can literally guard our hearts and our minds.

I’m not even sure what that means, to be honest. How peace can guard our hearts. And yet, it does. In some way, God’s peace is that amazing. It cannot fully be understood.

And it is available to you. Today, right now!

But look carefully at what Paul says before the promise arrives.

He doesn’t simply say, “The peace of God will guard your hearts automatically.”

Just the opposite. He tells us when and how God’s peace will guard our hearts.

Look again at verse 6. We are called to action.

And then, the progression takes place:

1) Present your requests to God—with thanksgiving.

2) Then the peace of God will guard your hearts and minds.

Prayer comes first. Peace follows.

There is a step here we cannot afford to miss. God’s peace is not automatic. It is connected to our prayer life.

When we bring our requests to Him with thankful hearts that acknowledge who He is and what He has already done, we experience peace.

So today, if you need peace, pray.

And when you do, you will experience a peace that transcends anything you could ever comprehend.

Prayer
