Living For God

·

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Matthew 7:7-12

We love to say, “There is nothing you can do to make God love you more and there is nothing you can do to make God love you less.”

And this is certainly true. An infinite love from an infinite God can never become more or less than it already is.

But it is NOT true to say, “There is nothing you can do to make God bless you more and there is nothing you can do to make God bless you less.”

There are countless examples where God offered conditional promises to those who live a certain way:

“You do not have because you do not ask.”

“If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.”

“Sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.”

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Even “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.”

It is true to say how we live does not affect God’s love for us. But it is not true to say how we live does not affect God’s blessing on our life.

It does matter.

So be careful how you live.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for your infinite love. Help me to live my life according to your word so that I may receive your beautiful blessings. Amen.
