On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.
In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”
Then they remembered his words.
Luke 24:1–8
May we all be reminded of his words today.
On that first Easter morning, the women walked to the tomb heavy with grief and sadness. Their Messiah had been crucified just days before.
They had watched Him tried, convicted, mocked, and tortured. They had watched as He suffered and died. This beautiful Healer, full of love, was rejected by the world He came to save.
And now, just after sunrise, they came to the tomb not expecting a miracle, but to anoint His body with spices.
Their hearts were broken. Their future uncertain. Their hope was gone.
But when they arrived at the tomb where the body of Jesus had been laid, everything changed!
The stone had been rolled away. The tomb was empty. And two men in dazzling clothes delivered a message that still resonates in our hearts and souls thousands of years later:
“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen!”
“He has risen!” Those are the words we celebrate today. The grave is not closed, the stone was rolled away.
Jesus Christ rose from the dead. He did what He said He would do. When He rose, He conquered death. He overcame sin. He stepped out of that grave alive. And forever secured our victory.
This is not just the moment that changed history. This is the moment that validates every promise, every word, and every hope we place in Him.
Because Jesus didn’t just claim to be the Son of God—He proved it.
And because He is alive, we can trust in every promise He gave us and find salvation in His name alone:
“God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” —John 3:16
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” —Romans 10:9
This is the good news of Easter:
That our sins can be forgiven.
That our past can be wiped clean.
That our guilt and shame can be taken from us
And our future can be secure.
If you are a follower of Christ, celebrate! And be reminded of everything Christ taught.
And if you have not placed your faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sin, there is no better day than today to do it. You cannot be good enough to earn salvation on your own. Your sin has separated you from God. And only by grace, through faith, can we be saved.
Turn to Him. Admit your need for a Savior. Trust in Him. And receive the forgiveness and new life that only Jesus can offer.
The tomb is empty. The grave has been defeated. The stone is rolled away—and Jesus is alive.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank you today for your victory over death. Thank you for an empty tomb, a rolled stone, and a risen Savior. Remind me again of all the words you have spoken that I may trust and follow You, not just today, but every day. Amen.
